ABOUT BUSHBASICS

Bushbasics has been established for those who are just starting out in the world of Bushcraft. We run all our courses at the weekends in an expedition style camp, set in a beautiful location in the Surrey countryside. Your awareness and appreciation of the countryside will also be enhanced.

We are now in our 4th year of teaching bushcraft skills and it has been a wonderful time. We have gone from strength to strength, starting with only a handful of students to now, in 2006, when we taught over 300.We hope the message is getting across to come and have a go at bushcraft- the more people who do, help keep our ancestral skills alive.

Chris Jones

I first got interested in bushcraft over 9 years ago while spending some time in Canada. While staying in some of the remotest places in Canada it made me realize how important it was to know how to look after yourself. The only way to do that is to know how to do bushcraft.

Having now learnt those skills and more I thought it was time to pass on my skills to others and that’s why I started up Bushbasics. Anyone can learn the basic bushcraft skills  from young to old.

One of my passions is primitive technology. Just knowing how to make fire by friction or flint knapping to make tools like scrappers or knives and knowing how to turn plant fibres in to cordage for fishing is a real confidence boost. I am also an active member of The Society Of Primitive Technology  which is an organization that specialize in keeping the old skills alive. The rediscovery of traditional skills is fun to learn plus it gives you a deeper understanding of our ancestors way of life plus it enhances your own bushcraft skills.

So why not give it a go but be warned it can be addictive!

I would like to say a big thank you to everyone that has sat around our camp fire and hopefully we will see you again soon. There are some new courses too for 2007, Navigation and Paddle making, which I can't wait to start, so check them out on our courses page.
